-
What types of commercial roofing systems do you install?
We specialize in commercial roofing systems such as torch-down roofing systems and single-ply membrane systems, which are known for their durability, energy efficiency, and reliable protection for a wide range of commercial buildings.
-
How do I know which roofing system is best for my building?
Choosing the right roofing system depends on several factors, including your building’s structure, budget, climate conditions, and long-term performance goals. Our team provides a professional assessment and personalized recommendations to ensure you get the most effective and cost-efficient solution for your property.
-
How long does a commercial roof typically last?
A commercial roof typically lasts 10–12 years, depending on the material used, installation quality, and ongoing maintenance. Regular inspections and maintenance can help extend the life of your roof.
-
What are the most common causes of commercial roof failure?
The most common cause of commercial roof failure is age and natural wear over time. Additional factors can include poor installation, lack of maintenance, weather damage, and drainage issues.
-
Do you provide warranties on materials and labor?
Yes, we stand behind our work and offer warranties on both materials and labor, giving you peace of mind and confidence in your investment.
-
How often should a commercial roof be inspected?
Commercial roofs should be inspected at least twice a year, ideally in the spring and fall, and after any major weather events such as storms, high winds, or heavy snowfall. Routine inspections help detect minor issues early and prevent costly repairs down the road.
-
What does a typical roof inspection include?
A standard roof inspection involves a comprehensive on-site evaluation of the entire roofing system.
This includes checking for:
• Leaks or moisture intrusion
• Membrane damage or deterioration
• Drainage performance and ponding water
• Flashing condition and seal integrity
• Seams and overall wear
-
Can regular maintenance extend the life of my roof?
Absolutely. Routine maintenance can significantly extend the lifespan of your roof by identifying and addressing small issues before they escalate into major problems.
-
What are the signs that my roof needs repair or replacement?
Common warning signs include:
• Water leaks or interior staining
• Cracks, punctures, or blistering on the roof surface
• Standing (ponding) water
• Loose, damaged, or missing flashing
If these problems are widespread, a full roof replacement may be more cost-effective than continued repairs.
-
How quickly can you respond to roof leaks or emergencies?
We can usually respond to leaks or emergencies the same day. We will inspect the roof, identify the problem, and do the repair at that time if possible.
-
Can you repair my roof, or do I need a full replacement?
The decision to repair vs replace is made on a case-by-case basis, since there are many factors that need to be considered, including the age and condition of the roof, the extent of the damage, and whether there is moisture trapped beneath the roof that is compromising the material underneath. Our team will assess the roof and present you with a recommendation tailored specifically to your property. Ultimately, however, it is up to the customer to make the decision.
-
Will repairs disrupt my business operations?
It would be unusual for roofing repairs to disrupt business operations.
-
How do I know when it’s time to replace my commercial roof?
Generally speaking, a commercial building owner will have spent a lot of time and money on repairs to the existing roof before it reaches the point where a replacement becomes necessary.
-
How long does a roof replacement take?
Roof replacement can take a few days to a few weeks, depending on several factors, including the size of the roof, how much equipment has to be moved (e.g., HVAC), and whether the old roof needs to be removed before the new one is installed. Our professionals will advise you on how much time your particular roof will take to complete.
-
Do you remove the old roof or install over it?
Putting a new roof over the old one is obviously a more budget-friendly option, but this is not always recommended due to the age and condition of the roof, the integrity of the decking that the roof is fastened to, and how many roofs are on the building. Two roofs are the most that are recommended.
-
How do I choose the right commercial roofing contractor?
When choosing a roofing contractor, make sure to use one who is fully licensed and insured for the work. There are several other considerations that could factor into your decision, such as:
- Length of time the company has been in business and at the same location
- Ability to provide several references upon request
- How long it takes to respond to questions via calls, texts, or emails.
-
What sets you apart from competitors?
Ed Murray Roofing is family-owned and operated and has been proudly serving Long Island’s business and residential customers for over 50 years. We have been around long enough that we have had many repeat customers who needed new roofs after we originally did their roofs 20-30 years ago.
-
How do you protect my property during installation?
For commercial buildings, all work areas are closed off using tape and/or cones. For
residential buildings, we cover landscaping with tarps to catch debris and protect plants.
All debris and materials are removed following completion of the job.
-
What precautions are taken for weather delays?
Roofing work is generally not scheduled if rain is expected to avoid hazardous working conditions.
